David Wilmot was licensed as Priest-in-Charge of the benefices of St. Oswald’s, Grasmere and St. Mary’s Rydal, and Chaplain to Rydal Hall, at a service on Sunday 8th September.
David is Rural Dean for Windermere Deanery, and was previously Vicar at St. Mary Windermere.
David’s youth was spent in Matlock, Derbyshire, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire and at Liverpool University, where he and Margaret met. They then lived in Salisbury, where David trained for Ordination and subsequently in Penrith where David was Curate.
Following a further Curacy in St. Albans, David became Vicar of Milton in Stoke-on-Trent and Rural Dean of Leek. In 2001 they moved to Windermere and Troutbeck where they have been for the past 18 years.
Margaret is an Artist who specialises in Painting on Silk. She and David have three grown-up offspring who each work in the performing arts. They greatly enjoy fell-walking and in recent years have made several Treks in the Nepal Himalayas.
Following his licensing, David said: “Thank you so much for the warmth of your welcome, especially to those who made the Licensing Service such a memorable occasion. We look forward very much to getting to know you and sharing in the life of the Village.”
For the time being David and Margaret will continue living in the Vicarage in Windermere while the Diocese are seeking a residence in or around Grasmere.
