St. Oswald’s church is located in the heart of Grasmere, where the bridge crosses the river.

Getting here

Road: Grasmere village is on the main A591 road through central Lakeland. From the south, leave the M6 at junction 36 (Kendal) and travel via the A590/A591 through Windermere and Ambleside. St. Oswalds is in the centre of the village. From the north, leave the M6 at junction 40 (Penrith) and travel via the A66 and A591 through Keswick.

Bus: Stagecoach route 555 passes through the village northbound from Lancaster, Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside, and southbound from Keswick. In the summer months the 599 bus shuttles between Bowness and Grasmere via Windermere and Ambleside. Buses at least hourly during the day, more often in the summer. Rail: Change at Oxenholme on the west coast main line and take the branch line to Windermere, trains hourly. (A few trains also run from Manchester Airport via Manchester Piccadilly, Preston, Lancaster and Oxenholme to Windermere.) From Windermere station take the 555, 599 bus or taxi from the well-served taxi rank at the station.
